ExportWrapping Services
Our export wrapping service protects furniture, antiques, mirrors, and large items travelling to Europe or going into long-term storage. David Dale Removals has offered export wrapping as part of its service since 1976, using the same materials on a Harrogate house move as on a full road-train shipment to Spain or France.
BAR member. Based at Dale House, Knaresborough, with a second office in Boroughbridge and our own depot in Almoradi, Spain.

What Export Wrapping Protects Against
Items travelling on a road-train from North Yorkshire to southern Spain, or going into a climate-controlled storage unit for six months, face different risks to a local move across town. Export wrapping addresses three of them:
- Moisture ingress – polyethylene stretch wrap and corrugated board create a barrier against condensation and humidity during multi-day transit through varying climates
- Impact and vibration – furniture blankets, bubble wrap, and corrugated cardboard pads absorb the vibration from long road journeys across France and Spain
- Compression and stacking damage – export-grade double-walled boxes and rigid crating protect fragile items and antiques from the weight of other goods loaded above them
For items travelling on our weekly UK-Spain-UK service, export wrapping is not optional. It is part of how we protect every load that leaves Knaresborough.
What Our Export Wrapping Service Includes
Our trained, permanent staff carry out all wrapping on site before loading. The service covers:
- Furniture blanketing and stretch wrap for sofas, wardrobes, dining tables, and large upholstered pieces
- Export-grade double-walled boxes for books, kitchenware, glassware, and smaller items
- Bubble wrap and acid-free tissue for china, glassware, silverware, and decorative pieces
- Specialist crating for grand pianos, large mirrors, antiques, and high-value artwork
- Mattress and picture covers – purpose-made protective sleeves
- Room-by-room labelling – every item marked with contents and destination room
- Written inventory – a full record of what has been wrapped and where it is located in the load
What is not included in the export wrapping service:
- Loft, garage, or outbuilding clearance (quoted separately)
- Hazardous materials, aerosols, paints, gas canisters (not permitted in transit)
- Disconnecting white goods (requires a separate engineer)

Export Wrapping for European Removals
Export wrapping is the standard for any removal to France, Spain, or Portugal. Items travelling several days on a road-train through multiple border crossings need better protection than a short domestic move. Our weekly UK-Spain-UK service runs approximately 50 weeks a year, and every load on that service is export-wrapped before it leaves our Knaresborough depot.
If you are moving to southern Spain, our own depot in Almoradi handles the receiving end. One coordinator manages the wrapping, transit, customs paperwork, and storage or delivery at destination. You are not handed off to a third party once the load crosses the Channel.
For removals to Spain, removals to France, or removals to Portugal, the same process applies: survey, wrap, load, transit, deliver. Full details are on our European removals page.
Export Wrapping for Storage
Furniture and large items going into our UK climate-controlled storage benefit from the same wrapping applied to an international removal. Items stored without export wrapping can pick up surface marks, moisture damage, or compression damage over months in a unit. We offer units in Knaresborough, and our team will advise whether wrapping is needed based on what you are storing and for how long.

Why Choose David Dale’s Export Wrapping Service?
With half a century of heritage, David Dale Removals has moved everything from multi-million pound medical scanners to 18th-century French armoires. We don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to packaging.
Expertise in Export Wrapping Our specialist teams are not general movers; they are packing technicians. They understand the science of desiccant ratios and the physics of heat-sealing complex, irregular shapes. Whether we are wrapping a classic motorcycle for a collector in Japan or a production line component for a factory in Germany, the level of precision remains the same.
Local Roots, Global Reach Operating from our central hubs, we offer a “mobile wrapping” service where our team can visit your facility to pack items in situ, or we can collect and wrap at our secure, climate-controlled warehouse. This flexibility allows businesses to integrate our services into their existing production timelines without disruption.
Proven Success Our Case Studies highlight our ability to solve the most difficult logistics puzzles. We recently managed the export of a delicate glass installation for a corporate headquarters in New York; by using a combination of foil-wrapping and shock-absorbent custom crating, the item arrived without a single hairline fracture despite four separate handling points.
Protect Your Bottom Line with Better Packing
In international trade, the cheapest packing is often the most expensive mistake you can make. A single damaged shipment can wipe out the profit margin of an entire contract. By choosing an expert export wrapping service, you are investing in the certainty of your supply chain.
Frequently Asked Questions
Export wrapping is a method of protecting furniture and large items using a combination of polyethylene stretch wrap, furniture blankets, bubble wrap, corrugated board, and purpose-made covers. It is used for international removals, long-distance UK moves, and long-term storage where standard packing is not sufficient.
Yes. For any removal travelling by road to Europe we apply export wrapping to all furniture and large items. Items on our weekly UK-Spain-UK service are export-wrapped as standard before leaving our Knaresborough depot.
Yes. If you have specific items – an antique, a large mirror, a piano – that need protecting for transit or storage, we can wrap individual pieces. Contact us to discuss what you need and we will advise on materials and cost.
The cost depends on the volume of items and whether wrapping is part of a full removal or a standalone service. The only reliable way to get an accurate figure is a survey, in person or by video call. We will carry out a free survey and issue a written quote before any work begins.
Standard packing uses boxes and bubble wrap suitable for a local or regional move. Export wrapping adds an outer layer of stretch wrap and furniture blankets, uses export-grade double-walled boxes, and may include specialist crating. It is designed for items that will spend several days in transit across varying climates or in storage for several months.
Yes. Our European removals service includes assistance with customs documentation for moves to France, Spain, and Portugal. Your single-point coordinator manages this alongside the wrapping, loading, and transport.
Both. We offer export wrapping as part of a full removal package or as a standalone service for items being collected and delivered separately. Speak to us about what you are shipping and we will advise on the right approach.
For moves on our weekly UK-Spain-UK service, we recommend booking at least four to six weeks ahead to secure your preferred departure date. For standalone wrapping or UK storage, contact us as soon as you know your move date and we will confirm availability.
